I am on a mission to find a way that non-recyclable plastics can actually be put to good use- Enter the Ecobrick!

As from the website www.ecobrickexchange.org :

What Are Ecobricks

Ecobricks are thermally insulating bricks that are made by simply compressing unrecyclable plastic into 2L bottles.

Why we’re in love with them

Making ecobricks is a way to save the environment whilst supporting a needy community from the comfort of your kitchen counter.

What do we do with Ecobricks?

Versatile play structures for children to create themselves

Raised beds for our gardens

Benches for parks and gardens

Boundry walls

Temporary exhibition structures

Here is how to make an ecobrick

It is really simple- make sure it is clean - no food particles etc- and then take out your frustrations by pushing those pieces of plastic that might have harmed an animal- into a bottle!! That bottle can make something great- like a school or a even a house!! you can put foil, clingwrap, anything that should not go to a landfill and take up space !

For durbanites: you can contact Shiloh on vermaak.shiloh@gmail.com about how you can drop off your completed bricks to her!
